Today’s guest is Rain Merton, whose first ebook is the interracial MM erotic romance short story entitled Summer Research that was just released by JMS Books!
About Summer Research:
Academic conferences and hookups go hand in hand. Or so the myth says.
Summer Research plays with such a scenario between two graduate students at different points in their lives and careers.
Basically, the story brings light-heartedness to two people mired in thinking through cultural politics and atrocity.
Jonah, 22, is finishing up his Master’s in English Literature and trying to decide whether to continue in academia or venture into what he and many people call “the real world.” While he enjoys researching his topic of black masculinities in young adult literature of the twenty-first century, he feels it’s time to bring his ideas to bear with more expediency.
Xavier — pronounced like Javier in Spanish — knows exactly what and whom he wants. Born in the Philippines, Xavier, 38, had a trajectory opposite to Jonah’s: school of life before school of graduate studies. He’s a political scientist making sense of the trauma of dictatorship and the legacy of colonialism on his birth country and its people. What’s more, Xavier’s personal history fuels his research, as his mother used to be a political prisoner under Marcos’s rule.
Obviously, these guys need a break. Maybe even more than a temporary one?
When they get together, Xavier manages to distract Jonah from his habit of constant analysis and overthinking. But the new feelings have a long and circuitous trail to get to Jonah’s heart, and he feels lost in this new territory.
Luckily, Jonah’s natural curiosity prompts him to keep exploring until he can understand the origins, operations, and implications of how Xavier makes him feel. Fully and completely.
As they say, you can take the student out of the classroom …
Presenting his research at the annual academic mega-conference is supposed to provide the answer to Jonah’s dilemma.
Instead, Congress brings him Xavier. Loud-mouthed, flamboyant, and whip-smart, Xavier wields humor as both a weapon and a shield. Soon Jonah can’t discern sincerity from banter; all he knows is the overwhelming, mystifying lust he feels for Xavier.
Is desire enough to build a decision around? Can Xavier offer the solution to Jonah’s dilemma?
