For the past several years, I’ve always found time to participate in NaNoWriMo. I like the camaraderie, and the unadulterated focus on getting the story down at any cost. No editing, no critiquing, nothing but creative inspiration and blood, sweat, and tears.
This year, I’ve surprised myself with my progress. Here it is, only day 6, and I’ve broken 20,000 words. WTF? I don’t write that much normally — my average word count on a daily basis is usually between 500 and 1,000 words, and if I do anything over that, I’m ecstatic.
But this story, tentatively entitled Just the Three of Us, is practically writing itself. The first day I finished chapter 1, at a little over 3,200 words in length. And I’ve kept that up every day since then, finishing a chapter a day, writing 3,400+ words and moving the story right along. I’m now on chapter 6, and anticipate at least 10 more to go before the story is finished.
