With the new revamp of my blog, I thought I’d invite other authors to stop by from time to time and talk about their new releases.
My first guest is Lisa Gray, whose new e-book Cowboy Lullaby was just published by JMS Books!
About Cowboy Lullaby:
I started writing this story for the Cowboy Roundup anthology last summer, but it got too long to be included there.
I wanted to bring together two characters made for each other: one who’s been waiting a long time, ignoring his own needs to take care of others, and one who’s been thrust into a situation where he doubts himself and desperately yearns for help. I tried to tell their story with a bit of humor. (At least I hope it comes across that way — comedy is hard!)
I enjoyed writing the character of Cole. Big men with gentle hands are a personal favorite of mine. And guys like Cole, who calmly put aside their own happiness, deserve some attention. The other main character, Jack, who worries himself into not sleeping, clicks with me as well. All too often I find myself lying wide awake for hours in the middle of the night and paying for it the next day.
I am thinking about a sequel — well, really a different story set on the same ranch. Mickey is a very minor character in Cowboy Lullaby. In fact, he has no lines at all. Yet he intrigues me. He’s a quiet ranch hand who doesn’t talk much and is more comfortable with animals than with people. I can empathize with that. I’d like to explore more about him and his talent for getting all creatures — two and four-footed — to instinctively trust him. Hopefully he’ll start talking to me soon.
Horses, a sympathetic ear, or a good night’s sleep. Cole Woodruff, owner of the Lazy W Dude Ranch, supplies whatever his guests need. But when Jack Harmon arrives, Cole’s own desires clamor to be met. Should he risk the ranch to satisfy what might be nothing more than an itch? And even if Jack turns out to be that special man Cole’s yearned for, is it right to move forward when a vulnerable child is involved?
Not long ago, Jack was awarded custody of his son Alex after the sudden death of the boy’s mother. Out on the road for all of his son’s life, what does he know about being a dad? Sleepless nights spent worrying have worn Jack to a raw nerve.
Visiting the dude ranch with Alex, Jack delights in Cole’s friendship. And the way Cole’s warm, wonderful voice is so soothing, it cradles Jack to sleep whenever they’re together. Jack aches to spend every night dreaming in the big cowboy’s arms.
But can a lullaby last forever? Or will the dream fade when morning comes?
About Lisa Gray:
I grew up in the Midwest where I received a Master’s degree in French. A couple years ago, I started reading fan fiction, then eventually writing some of my own. Finally, I decided to try my hand at creating original characters.
I am an animal lover. I worked with a rescue organization for several years. My husband and I became specialists in nursing motherless newborn kittens. (Feedings every two hours around the clock!) Currently we have five cats of our own, but that’s always subject to change.
